Where did you learn to produce music?

Well I started producing before YouTube was around so it was way harder back then. I had a friend show me the very bare basics (how to make a sound come out of the program) and I taught myself from there. When I didn't know something it was down to checking the help file. Which sucked. I guess that's why it took me 4-5 years to make anything decent enough to get signed.
